FORM WORKSHOP is a research and educational platform developed by Fredrik Skåtar, architect SAR/MSA, who runs STUDIO SKÅTAR. It focuses on geometry, old and new, materialised using contemporary design tools. 

Architects need to be good craftsmen. To enable architecture’s beautiful layer, we must master our profession’s geometrical, sculptural and artistic facets. In an increasingly digitally rigid, centrally controlled BIM-working environment, Rhinoceros is one of the few software programs that stands out artistically. It spans fields from product design to urbanism. However, its truly unique feature is its sculptural aspect, which, for experienced Rhino users, sometimes evokes the feeling of working with a physical model. Rhino is a tactile 3D modelling tool that allows users to create complex shapes that enrich architectural ambition.

Grasshopper is Rhinoceros’s algorithmic extension. This tool can automatically perform vast real-time modelling tasks and analyse geometric shapes using capsules containing predefined scripts. When we combine these capsules, we create parametric controls that recreate and automate modelling actions in Rhinoceros.
